About Us
What is FDG?
Since 1990, the Forensic Directors Group has actively represented and advocated for forensic mental health programs and services in Ontario. In all of its activities, the FDG has sought to reflect the concerns and views of its members and to ensure that forensic mental health is represented in policy development and service planning.
The establishment of the Ontario Forensic Directors Group (FDG) was prompted by three factors:
Major Role
The recognition of the major role of forensic mental health hospital programs in providing forensic mental health care in Ontario.
Uniqueness
The identification of unique management issues in forensic hospital mental health services.
Mutual Support
The realization that collectively, forensic mental health programs lacked a distinct voice in provincial and local policy making.
Our Mission & Values
To promote the continuing development of optimal forensic mental health services in Ontario by promoting excellence in the delivery of forensic mental health programs. The FDG will increase the knowledge and skills of member hospitals and programs. It will provide a coordinated and effective voice on issues relevant to the delivery of forensic mental health care.
The FDG will endeavor to achieve these aims through mutual support among members and effectively liaising with government, other health care associations/organizations and other services and programs, both institutional and in the community.
